So I just had to write a post about this although it is a departure from my normal post content. I bought my 2002 Ford Explorer XLS around a year and a half ago. It was a great deal and I bought the car way below Blue Book value price. Everyone knows the Found On Road Dead moniker. But I still had some sort of lingering faith in the company and wanted to support my country by buying American. Well those lofty idealistic ideas are gone along with well over $3,000. In the past month I have replaced the entire rear end differentials and bearings, brakes including rotors, discs, and pads, tires, windshield, and am now looking at a complete transmission rebuild. On the way back from Vegas this past weekend I lose second gear completely and start losing first. All before 90k miles! So, let this be a warning: Don’t buy Ford! The positive outcome of this ordeal is that I found some really great auto repair shops who have been really helpful so I’ll list them here for anyone in San Diego with car trouble.
- Differentials, rear-ends, or bearings: ProGear Differentials 858-571-1158
- Transmissions: Henry’s All American Transmission Repair 619-692-9427
- General auto repair: Woods Automotive 619-299-1837
well that is very unfortunate and i can completely understand your frustration but you need to realize that sometimes the previous owners of the vehicle could have possibly bagged the vehicle. i mean you don’t really know right? so really you shouldn’t just hate ford because of that, the previous owner could have treated it like crap, and therefore if would have been a chevy suburban or a dodge durango, nearly all the same problems would have likely occurred, but each to their own i suppose.
also not to mention why do you think you got it for cheaper than you normally would have? you usually get what you pay for. even if you think it’s a good deal, usually there’s a reason it is cheaper than usual.
If there is one thing you can say about Ford it’s that the federalis don’t own them! At least they have that going for them, and a solid rep in the transmission department.
Just baught a new 2010 Ford Taurus and wrench service light lit after 300 km. The dealer knew about the issue but sold it defective anyways. Trying to get my money back but…
Ford has no solid rep in the transmission dept or any other. They make some of the most shitless vehicles and junk transmissions on the road. Fix or repair daily is still going strong and always will.
I have had two new Fords. Both are pieces of junk that I have put more money into than they are worth. My Dad bought an explorer and Nothing works on the darn thing. Don’t bother with Ford. Better to go foreign!!!!
i actualy think ford is a great company. ford explorers where great untill 2000. we had an awsome 1995 ford explorer. but recently ford explorers have had tendencies to fall over and have transmission problems. the person who wrote ripped off!, thats not fords fault that the dealership sold it faulty. they have almost no control over there franchises and dont need to check them regularly
do not buy ford they have bad plastics in there vehicles and they are cracking in just a few months..no ford wont fix, replace or even admit theres a problem..even though it happend to the ford ranger last year…now with the fussion..mines a 2010 only 30000 km..and im the dummy for buying a ford..basically thats the attitude…sucks i was a ford family member for 4 generations..now id rather walk..or even say id rather drive a forien car..dam how sad is that…thanks ford … for nothing but head aches..
a former customer..who will never own or recomend ford again..
