What a weekend! The post will be short as I will let the pictures do the talking.
The lowdown: MTV’s show ‘Scarred’ decided to film a 3 hour live special at Chula Vista Skatepark; Overload and MHough are onsite to represent and skate. First, Playmate of the Year 2006. Second, America’s Top Model of the Year 2006. Third, Wee-man. Fourth, a tank full of live sharks and a motorcycle backflip. Fifth, EHough as photographer. Sixth, MHough is selected to skate. Seventh, a 17-set handrail vs Kenny Hughes. Eighth, Overload represents the event with our new logo t-shirts. Ninth, …why are you still reading this? Go check out the pics!
It was almost the perfect Sunday Skate Session that everyone was hoping for: the weather turned out, the grills were on site, the skating was going off. Things were just getting warmed up when we noticed a few cop cars across the street. From the looks of things a super rich yuppie was out for a Sunday drive in his $80,000 convertible Mercedes. Only problem was he was drunk and pulled over. And so, as the normal order of things go, it doesn’t take just one or two cops to arrest some guy. It takes at least 4 or 5 cars with about 8 to 10 cops to do it. The rest of the story is probably easy to figure out. 10 cops standing around + a bunch of kids skating = busted. The cops were being “nice” that day and not issuing citations. O’ lucky day! Never fear though, next Sunday we’ll be back. Moral of the story: drunk driving doesn’t just affect the driver, it affects the whole community.
Continuing to satisfy my hunger for all things skating and surfing, I recently picked up some new toys to add to the collection.
Top of the list: I picked up two new surfboards (off Craig’sList off course). The first was a 6′2″ Lost Speed Demon (which may now be my favorite board) and the second board was a 6′0″ quad-fin fish (which will be my summer board).
Also something I’ve been wanting to buy for some time, I managed to land a sweet deal on a 8′x4′ utility trailer. Where did I get it? Craig’sList of course! This trailer is awesome and I now can carry around lumber and all of my skate stuff.
Which leads me to my final new item: the dual-height funbox. I based this design off of a funbox I built about 4 years ago and was one of my favorite fun boxes. I never built another one because I didn’t have a pickup truck to carry it anymore. Enter the utility trailer! We’ve had a few Sunday skate sessions on it and it is holding up well and liked by all.
I added a few pics below but you can always go to the main gallery here for more pictures.
This weekend I built a sister bank ramp that was identical to my other one for something new to skate. After getting bounced off the ground a few times I was able to land a decent bank-to-bank gap that covered around 6 feet or so. Then was able to clear the length of the funbox straight up which is 6 feet long. Hopefully, I’ll be able to clear a car in the upcoming months. My challenge: find someone who will let me use their car and not wreck on it.
