Welcome to the desert: Anza Borrego Camping

Eric, Chief, and I tackled the Anza Borrego badlands this weekend. The desert is an interesting place: great for stargazing, the silence is deafening, and the sky is a deep, deep blue. The vast expense of open land allows the mind to wander and expand into the empty, wild space. We camped in the badlands, old sediment beds that are eroding into fingers of spiny mud with great crevasses between that have no bottom. Getting there was no easy task. We drove back a few miles of “primitive roads” which were no more than old sandy washes and rocky paths hammered out over time by off road vehicles. The last time I camped in Anza Borrego I was camping in the high desert at 6500′. This time we camped down in the desert basin at a few hundred feet above sea level. My mission for next time: hike in and camp beneath one of the towering 8000′ peaks, and then climb one before sunrise. Undoubtedly though, another great trip and basic adventure into the great outdoors of Southern California.

September on the East Coast…

eastcoast visit sept-06 (0).JPGI just got back from a great visit to go back to Pennsylvania to meet the newest member of the Hough family, my beautiful neice Amelia. The trip was definitely one of the best visits I’ve had yet, packed full of family time, food, guns, cigars, motorcycles, hiking, and corvettes. Labor Day: Surfing, Baja, lobsters, and cigars…

I just got back from a great Labor Day trip down south of the border to Mexico with Bathhouse Alex, Doctor Dave, and Kaysie Maquilladora. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures to post. See rule #1 from the unofficial Roadtrippin in Mexico handbook: Don’t bring any valuables!
