Here’s some video of the swell that hit Southern California on December 9th of this year. The footage was filmed at my favorite surf spot, Black’s Beach. Unfortunately, I arrogantly paddled out with my 6′4″ shortboard when I really needed a gun that was at the very least 7′ long. Needless to say, I was properly humbled again by Mother Nature and I shook off my summer over-confidence (or should I say it was shaken off me). After 30 minutes or so of dodging monster outside clean up sets, I paddled my ass back in alive and with a newfound appreciation for the power of Black’s on a winter swell. Next time I’ll be prepared!

Another ridiculously nice Xmas day has come and gone in San Diego. I want to wish anyone who comes across my website a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!
Sorry for all of the sunset pics, it was so beautiful I couldn’t pick out which ones to keep so I just kept them all…
The Electric Warriors “is a group for friends, to make friends, to be with friends; for everyone who knows San Diego is much more beautiful on a bike, for everyone who wants to unite and spend one night laughing, being boisterous and jovial, connecting, and most importantly feeling something other than the daily dredge of life; a movement to take back the streets, if not just for one night, at least forever in our memories.”
I had the privilege of joining this boisterous group to ride through San Diego at night for the “Fuck Christmas!” theme. We started out with a group of 200 or so riders dressed as Santa, elves, and reindeer. It was great to be part of a shifting, moving, mass of people that was flowing through the streets; shutting down traffic, intersections, neighborhoods, and parking lots. At one point we had some police escorts, until they decided to call in about 6 or 7 units to try to stop the run due to “traffic and noise disturbance”. But like an unstoppable juggernaut, we kept riding forward and flowed around the police cars until they gave up and let us continue on our way.
The next event is scheduled January 12th. The theme is “Cops and Robbers”. Meet at 10pm at the big fountain in Balboa Park and come dressed as either a cop or robber. I’m dressing as a cop so when the police try to stop us next time, we can make it nice and confusing for them! Hope to see you there!
For those that don’t know: “The Wedge at Newport Beach is a combination of two waves that merge together, thrusting into a titanic slingshot that breaks with enough pounds per square inch to send Stone Cold Steve Austin to the mat. The Wedge is not a wave — it’s a 20-foot-plus meat grinder dreamed up by the devil himself.”
